Atlético de Madrid was founded in 1903 by a group of students from Biscay with the idea of creating a Basque club in the capital. Initially known as Athletic Club
of Madrid, was dependent on Athletic Club de Bilbao. Its first field was near El Retiro Park, and it shared the crest and colors of its parent club. It participated in the first Spanish championships, fielding players from the capital. The club became independent in 1924, marking
