Hugo Leonardo Pérez, better known as “Perico,” left an indelible mark on the history of Real Sporting de Gijón and in the hearts of its fans.
He arrived at the Gijón club during the winter transfer window of the 1994/95 season and, despite his short time there, made a lasting impression on the fans who saw him play at El Molina. He played 57 matches in the red and white jersey, scoring 5 goals.
His undeniable talent and skill, especially in midfield, quickly made him a key player for the team. But what truly made him stand out was his commitment and dedication in every match.

1908 - El Molinón
El Molinón is the oldest football stadium in Spain, inaugurated in 1908. Throughout the 20th century, it witnessed Sporting's greatest successes and became a symbol of the city of Gijón. 1967 - 1980 - Quini, the "Wizard"
Enrique Castro "Quini" is undoubtedly the most emblematic figure in Sporting's history. A multiple-time top scorer in La Liga, his goalscoring prowess and charisma made him an idol for the Sporting Gijón fans.
1970XYZ80 XYZ80 The Golden Era
Sporting Gijón experienced its most successful period in the 1970s and 1980s. Under the management of Vicente Miera and with iconic players like Quini, Cundi, Ferrero, and Mesa, the team finished as league runners-up in the 1978XYZ79 season and reached two Copa del Rey finals (1981 and 1982). They also participated in several editions of the UEFA Cup, leaving an indelible mark on Spanish football.
