Quini, Ferrero, Joaquín, Tati Valdés, Luis Enrique, Abelardo, David Villa, Ablanedo, and the new generation of "Guajes" (youngsters) are among those responsible for the city and Sporting becoming one and the same. Their bench has also seen some truly important coaches like Jesús Barrio, Carriega, Vicente Miera, José Manuel Díaz Novoa, Boskov, Ciriaco Cano, Manolo Preciado, and Abelardo himself.
But Sporting is more than just big names. Sporting is a fanbase that never stops cheering, traveling, shouting, dreaming, and crying. Whatever happens, La Mareona (the team's nickname) is always there.
