The 1988 season was a bittersweet milestone in the history of UD Las Palmas. The Canarian team said goodbye to the First Division and would begin a long journey that lasted 12 years until returning to the highest category of Spanish football. In fact, that descent began a very unfortunate time, going down to the Second Division “B” in 1992, which raised fears
even for its existence. One of the standout players that season was Koke Contreras, a talented forward who left his mark on the fans.
