The Law of the Bottle: Whoever knocks it down, has to get it.

In neighborhood soccer, there were no referees or official rules, but we had our own unwritten constitution. And the first article was sacred: "The Law of the Bottle: Whoever knocks it down, has to get it." If you sent the ball three blocks away with a shot into the air, you were the one who had to run down to get it, even if it was on the grumpy neighbor's balcony or rolling toward the highway. It was pure justice. And while you were going to retrieve the ball, the others would yell all sorts of things at you from the sidelines. But you came back, you always came back, because without the ball, there was no game. That law taught us responsibility better than any teacher ever could.
