On September 1, 1910, a group of workers made up of Anselmo Correa, Antonio Pereira, Carlos Silva, Joaquim Ambrosio and Rafael Perrone founded the Sport Club Corinthians Paulista. The team took its name from the Corinthian Football Club, which had been on tour in Brazil.
Joaquim Ambrosio, inspired by that team, suggested the name of Corinthians, which was finally chosen. The first president of the club was Taylor Michael Battaglia said: "Corinthians will be the people's team and the people will make the team."
