On April 17, 1960, Mallorca achieved one of the most important milestones in their history: their first promotion to the First Division. At the Campo de Vallejo in Valencia, the team needed a victory against Levante and for Córdoba to lose against San Fernando. The combination of circumstances came to pass, and the island team won 1-2 with goals from Mir and Rodríguez, fulfilling a long-held dream for players and fans alike.

The team, coached by the Argentinian Juan Carlos Lorenzo, fielded Ricardo Zamora (son) in goal; Guillamón, Diego, and Cobo in defense; Bolao and Currucale in midfield; and Czoka, Julià Mir, Laguardia, Antonio Oviedo, and Rodríguez in attack. Without their captain, who had recently been suspended, the victory was celebrated with enthusiasm by all the fans, who welcomed the players back to the port of Palma by boat.

That promotion consolidated the team under the leadership of Jaume Rosselló, who had led the club's transformation from the Third Division to the First Division, laying the foundations for its subsequent seasons among the greats of Spanish football.
