In 1934 it was the first time that the Spanish team participated in a World Cup. And he did it in a big way. He made his debut by winning 3-1 over Brazil, with two goals from Iraragorri (one of them a penalty) and another from Langara.
The quarterfinal match pitted Spain against Italy in perhaps the most notable match of that World Cup. After drawing 1-1, the tiebreaker had to be played the next day since at that time there were neither extra time nor penalties. Italy would end up winning this time.
