Online Retro Football Kit Store for La Rioja

History of football in La Rioja: tradition, passion and legacy.

La Rioja has a football tradition dating back to the early 20th century, driven by the Gran Casino de Logroño in 1910 with the creation of the Agrupación Deportiva Logroñesa. After the emergence of other entities such as the Logroño Recreation Club, the first significant registered club was the Club Deportivo Logroño, established in 1922. The entity that united the fans for seven decades was the Club Deportivo Logroñés, founded in 1940 after the Spanish Civil War.

Over the decades, the Logroño club adopted different names and structures.

The matches were held at the La Trilladora field until the Las Gaunas stadium opened in 1924, which became the epicenter of the city's football life. C.D. Logroñés played in the First and Second Divisions. After its dissolution in 2009, C.D. Varea (founded in 1967) ceded its place to form Unión Deportiva Logroñés, maintaining the red and white spirit. The stadiums, uniforms, and colors of the local clubs have shaped the aesthetic of classic football in the city. Understanding this history, marked by the passion in the old Gaunas stadium during the promotions of the 80s and 90s, and the resurgence of Riojan football in the 21st century, allows us to understand the evolution of football shirt designs, sports fashion, and the importance of historical kits as cultural elements. Each historical stage of football in La Rioja and of teams like Club Deportivo Logroñés and C.D. Varea inspires vintage football fashion and retro shirts, allowing us to connect with the legacy, passion, and spirit of classic football in the province.
