Albacete has a football tradition dating back to the early 20th century, making it a historical benchmark within Castilian-La Mancha football. The first organized teams emerged at the beginning of the century, most notably Club Deportivo Albacete (founded in 1917) and later Albacete Fútbol Club. Finally, several entities merged to found Sociedad Deportiva Albacete Fútbol Asociación on June 1, 1939, which in 1941 became Albacete Balompié.
Over the decades, the Albacete club adopted the established name of Albacete Balompié.
