Guadalajara has a football tradition that dates back to the beginning of the 20th century, influenced by its proximity to Madrid. The city's first club was Moderno Foot-ball Club in 1906. However, the entity that gave rise to the modern club emerged after the Civil War, with C.F. Guadalajara E. y D. (Educación y Descanso) in 1946. Finally, the club that managed to unite the fans was Club Deportivo Guadalajara, founded on January 10, 1947, with the aim of competing in federated categories.
Over the decades, the purple-clad club adopted the name Club Deportivo Guadalajara, S.A.D.. Matches were held in emblematic venues such as the old field of the Agrupación Deportiva Obrera and the El Productor field, until the inauguration of the Campo de Fútbol Pedro Escartín (popularly known as Campo del Henares) in 1970, which became the epicenter of the city's football life.
