For those of us who grew up playing in the '90s, our first tattoo didn't come from a tattoo parlor. It came from a Mikasa FT5 ball to the head in the dead of winter. A sharp impact, a stabbing pain, and that red mark that lasted for days as a reminder that you'd been there, in the mud, playing for real.

The Mikasa was unforgiving. It was hard as a rock, especially when it was wet or cold. A ball to the face, legs, or chest left the perfect imprint of the ball's hexagonal pattern etched into your skin. They weren't ordinary bruises: they were battle medals you wore with pride to school the next day.
