THE STORY BEHIND ...

Producto

The 1976/1977 season was historic for Atlético de Madrid, who were crowned La Liga champions for the eighth time in their history. The team, coached by Luis Aragonés, clinched the title on the penultimate matchday after a draw against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu. On May 15, 1977, a first-half goal by Rubén Cano was enough to secure the league title at the home of their eternal rivals.

Much of the credit for that league title was due to the defensive solidity shown by the team, which culminated in Miguel Reina winning the Zamora Trophy.

Figures like Luis Aragonés and, more recently, Diego Simeone—both players and coaches for Atlético de Madrid—cemented their legend based on passion and a fighting spirit. Atlético Madrid fans always get back up, and that has earned them the respect of all other clubs, making their fanbase one of the most loyal in all of Spain.
